What is Adult/Geriatric Private Duty Nursing?

Adult/ Geriatric private duty nursing is skilled nursing care provided on a hourly basis by a licensed Registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. Care for adult patients can either be short-term or long-term care provided inside of the home for a duration of 4 to 24 hours a day.  

Who is Considered an Adult or Geriatric? 

Adult patients is anyone over the age of 21 years of age. Ages 21 and below qualifies for pediatric private duty nursing. The geriatric age range begins around the age of 65. 

What qualifies me to have Adult/ Geriatric nursing? 

Adults may qualify for adult private duty nursing services by having one or more of the following conditions: 

  • Have an enteral feeding tube (G/J Tube, PEG Tube, or NG Tube) and requires enteral nutrition

  • Requires intermittent or continuous intravenous therapy

  • Have a tracheostomy tube and need tracheostomy care

  • Ventilator dependent

  • Chest physiotherapy
